Should You Go With Stock Certificates or Real Estate Investments

Given the current state of the real estate market, many investors are wondering if it’s safe to invest in it. At the same time, the stock market is still suffering, leaving investors hesitant to purchase stocks and wondering where they should go to invest. Some experts are insisting that, despite the economic status, right now is the perfect time to invest in real estate while others still claim stocks to be the best long term investment.

One of the biggest reasons quoted for turning to stocks over real estate is their long term value. The factor working against real estate is in the long run they’re barely able to keep pace with inflation. The longer you hold on to a home, the higher inflation goes and the harder it will be for your home’s value to keep up the same pace. Stocks, however, tend to beat inflation by a large margin over an extended period of time.

Of course, on the other side of the coin, you can’t eat, sleep, or live in stock certificates. There are also free stock certificates which have come popular within the market. A home can be left to family or friends, and be made useful in numerous ways. This is an area where stock simply cannot compete. If you’re interested in investing in real estate, it’s still possible to make a good bit of money by purchasing and flipping properties. You may also choose to rent out any properties that you purchase, and thus have a steady source of income at your disposal.

No matter whether one decides to invest in the stock market or in the real estate market, there are always risks involved. With stocks, you must be able to purchase the right stocks at the right time and know when to trade or when to sell in order to turn a profit. Timing can be an important factor when finding a home to invest in. You’ll need to be aware of what the homes in the area are going for at that moment and what potential renters are interested in at the time if you’re purchasing a rental property. Unlike stocks, properties need to be flipped fast in order to maximize profit, and the longer it takes to sell the property the less you’ll profit from it.

In the end, what it seems to come down to is personal preference, as both stocks and real estate have their own variables, ups, and downs, and both can turn into a profitable and worthwhile investment.
